… before it gets better.

No one ever said making change is easy. Growth takes hard work.

To become a beautiful butterfly, you have to live through the dark phase of the cocoon.

Giving up and staying in the cocoon isn’t an option. The struggle to get free of the cocoon is the struggle of transformation. How badly do you want to transform your life? Accepting the status quo will never get you out of that cocoon. To get to the light, often times you have to fight your way through the darkness.

Transformation is a lifelong process; it doesn’t happen overnight. Transformation is a series of steps that tend to make things appear worse before they can become better. It’s like any detox process, in order to cleanse the body and heal, the infection or toxins need to first rise to the surface before they can leave the body. So the darkness is temporarily exaggerated before the light of transformation can prevail.

To become something great, you have to do something great. Being great means using your inner strength to fight your way through your own cocoon of darkness. Remember giving up is never an option. Just when the catepillar was ready to give up his struggle, he transformed into a beautiful butterfly and flew away.

If it upsets you, put it down.

Seems like common sense, right? But we tend to do the opposite.

We love to harbor negative thoughts and feelings and dwell on them until they become BIGGER than life. It’s human nature to obsess over what is not working/not making us happy. But that strategy never changes your situation. The only strategy that changes your situation is learning to change your focus.

What you focus on EXPANDS. So if you focus on happy thoughts, you increase happiness around you. But if you’re focused on negative thoughts, you perpetuate negative situations.

The way you FEEL is everything, because it determines your next experience.

Like attracts like. If you want happiness, you have to FIRST FEEL HAPPY, then you can attract happier situations/people into your life. If you focus on negativity, you’ll only get MORE of it.

If you don’t take responsibility for managing your emotions, they’ll run away with you, and you’ll always be at the mercy of whatever is happening around you. You’ll never find happiness there. Don’t wait for something outside of you to make you happy, find a reason to be happy within yourself and then watch the magic happen.

If it makes you happy, pick it up and put your focus on it; if it doesn’t, put it down, you don’t need it. Focusing on it will NOT make you happier.

Focus on HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL and your life will bring you more of the same. Aren’t you ready to be happy?

Your past is in THE PAST. The only thing it does is create a FOUNDATION for which you are meant to BUILD UPWARDS.

This foundation has shaped you and molded you into the being you are today. But as with any foundation, you’re meant to BUILD UPON IT and move UPWARDS, not stay stuck on it.

You were never meant to be tied to the very foundation you’ve come from. It was only ever a starting point for who you were going to become. Moving forward, you’re meant to be evolving yourself, building a NEW YOU on top of that foundation.

But many of us forget that. We get mired in the past and we allow it to limit our growth. But here’s the deal, you always have a choice in every moment as to how you will use your past. Will you allow yourself to be held back by that past or will you be strong enough to make your life better based on your learnings from that past? That choice is always yours.

Your past no longer has any control over you, because IT IS OVER. Leave your past in the past where it belongs. Don’t focus on the foundation anymore – it’s there, it’s solid, it’s not going anywhere. It will support the new you that you are building on top of it. Use that foundation to build something extraordinary – something unique – something that will leave its mark on the world. If you just stop at the foundation, you will never explore the depths of what you could become.

Your past never defines you; what you do with it, does. Always know that just because it’s part of your history does NOT mean it has to become part of your destiny. Only you can decide that.

difference-between-depression-and-sadness… it’s about your state of mind.

So change it.

Reducing your stress level (about your schedule) is about controlling your mind, NOT your schedule.

Understandably so, most of us become stressed due to the schedules we work under. We’re time-impoverished and that creates a source of stress in our lives.

But believe it or not, stress is a choice. It’s a choice in perception.

You can either allow your schedule to “stress you out” or you can change your perception of your schedule. In other words, your schedule doesn’t have to be a source of stress, but the way you mentally label it will be.

You may not always be able to control your schedule, but you can always control HOW YOU REACT TO IT. So, know that you can change the way you are viewing your schedule. For instance, you can either see your schedule as “full and fulfilling” or it can be seen as “busy and overwhelming.”

A schedule is just that, a schedule; the mental perception we attach to it is the way we will experience it. The same holds for anything in life – an event/situation/person is just that, but the perception we attach to it, is how we will experience it.

Do you want to feel more in control of your life? Do you want to have less stress? Learn to redefine what you’re looking at. When you redefine your situation, you will experience it very differently. You are always in control of how you see things. Just know that stress is never about your schedule, it’s about your state of mind as you make your way through it.

trapped… you’re ONLY trapped by the choices you make.

All we have in our lives are our choices. They are our ticket to happiness, freedom and the life we want to live.

Believe it or not, you are NEVER bound by the circumstances of your life, you are ONLY bound by the choices you have made thus far.

In other words, if life isn’t working out the way you want it to, you always get to make another choice and put it on a better track. But most of us don’t realize that we can do that.

As humans, we tend to fear change. We tend to stay with what we know even if it makes us unhappy. Many of us get stuck in very dark places because that’s what we’ve come to know and we’re unsure as to how to change it, so we never do.

But here’s the deal, you are never meant to be unhappy. An unhappy life is an unfulfilled one.

You’re never trapped by your life, but you can be trapped by the choices you make. So if your choices are making you feel trapped, make a choice to free yourself. And realize that a choice to stay trapped (for whatever reason – obligation, responsibility, or uncertainty/fear) is still a choice.

Are you living the life you want to live? If you’re not, MAKE ANOTHER CHOICE. Remember you’re not trapped by your life, you are only trapped by the choices you make. You can never run out of choices, you can never run out of options, if you’re stuck in your life, you can always choose again. It’s your life, choose wisely.

stepping-backward… not backwards.

Bet you didn’t know that.

Setbacks are a necessary step along the path of life. They are your indication that the path you’ve been traveling is no longer working for you.

A setback literally STEPS YOU BACK from moving ahead in a given direction. It forces a timeout to get still within yourself and take stock of the direction you are going. A setback is never a punishment to who you are, it’s a recalibration of the path you’ve been traveling.

If you experience a setback, the universe is clearly telling you that it is NOT in your best interest to proceed in that direction. It helps to clarify that it is NEVER a SETBACK but a STEP BACK in order to take stock of where you are/where you are going. The STEP BACK puts your life momentarily on PAUSE. That pause is very purposeful because it demands that you re-chart a new path which is much better suited to your needs and desires.

The setback is NEVER SETTING YOU BACK. It’s only SETTING YOU UP for a much better path, if you can heed it. Setbacks move you forward, not back. Recognize that the setback is a protection against moving in the wrong direction, so allow it to guide you towards a new direction which will be more satisfying for you. You are never being SETBACK in your life, you are only being SET UP for the future that awaits you – you only need to allow yourself to be open to it.

How people treat you… is about THEM and where they are in their life.

It’s NOT about you.

How you REACT is about YOU.

The way people treat you is more a reflection of who they are and where they are in their life at that moment, then it’s ever about you. But we tend to make it about us. 

You can never control how someone treats you, but you can always control how you react to them and that’s your only job.

As long as you are accepting responsibility for your life and your actions and you are consciously showing up as the best version of yourself everyday, then you’re being YOUR BEST YOU and no one can ask more of you.

How people treat you says more about where they are in their own level of consciousness and that is a playing field that you do not have to play in. Stay in your own field. Own your own behaviors, strive to be the best YOU everyday and if it isn’t good enough for someone else, realize that it’s most likely because they aren’t feeling good enough about themselves.

Stay in your own playing field. How people treat you is NEVER about you, it’s always about them. Let them learn to manage their own playing field and more importantly, keep them out of yours.
