is about controlling your thoughts, NOT your actions.

Those of us who want to feel in control usually default to controlling our actions in the hopes of controlling an outcome. But there’s a better way to get the outcome you desire…

Start at the beginning — learn to control your thoughts FIRST because your thoughts create your perceptions and your perceptions create your reality.

Nothing will manifest through action if it’s not supported by a thought that’s aligned with it. In other words, if you think one thing but try and use action to create something else, it’ll never work. For example, have you ever tried to succeed in a business venture, yet didn’t believe in yourself that you could succeed? That’s a perfect example.

If your action doesn’t support what you think about it, it’ll never happen. There’s no amount of action that will overcome your thought about the situation. It doesn’t matter what you do, what matters is what you think about it.

Don’t fight yourself — if you want to control something, control something that’ll make a difference in your life. Don’t waste your time trying to control something physically through your actions and yet undue yourself mentally through your thoughts.

Do you want to be in control of your life? Learn to control the right things. Control your thoughts and it’ll control everything else.

… is a step closer towards success.

But we were never taught that.

We view failure as a setback, but in reality “failure” is NOT a setback, but a necessary “step-BACK” along our path towards success. Sometimes it’s necessary to step back in life to regroup and re-calibrate so that we can move forward in a stronger, more definitive way.

It’s important to understand that success is very rarely a steady trajectory upwards. By it’s definition, it’s frought with many step-backs — it has to be. After all, if you didn’t know failure, how could you ever really come to know success?

Our lives are about taking 1-step forward, 2-steps back and it’s the steps-back that enable us to “re-trace” our steps in order to do things better next time. The steps back allow you to process the wisdom you’ve already garnered and make some new decisions with it.

Failure is never falling short of your goal — it’s part of the process it takes to get there. When you learn what doesn’t work, you begin to understand more about what will work. Rejoice in your failures, they innately set you up onto a more solid foundation moving forward. The only way to get to the next highest mountain top is to come down the side of the mountain you’re on. Don’t fight the downhill slide, use that experience to go higher up the next mountain.

… keeps you both in darkness.

Why not learn to throw down a ladder instead?

There is a difference between trying to help someone and losing yourself in the process.

You can’t change people. You can’t fix people. You can’t drag people to a better version of themselves. They have to want to meet you there or they will never get there.

You can’t do the work for people. Giving them all the answers doesn’t help them to learn how to crawl out of the hole themselves. What happens the next time they fall in again?

Show them there is a better way to live. Throw them down a ladder and encourage them to climb out themselves. Lead by example. Stay out in the sunshine and entice them out of their darkness. But stay away from the edge, you might just fall in. If you try to do their work for them, you’ll both end up in the hole and then you won’t be of any use to them.

If you really want to help people, teach them how to work their way back up to the light. Give them the tools to help them climb out on their own and welcome them out into the sunshine. It’s a win-win for both of you.

… until you don’t have any fight left.

If there is someone or something you want in life, you fight for it. Otherwise you lose it.

How do you know it’s worth fighting for?

If its presence in your life makes you better, makes you happier, lifts you, supports you and challenges you to think of things in a new way — it’s worth fighting for.

If its presence in your life doesn’t shift your consciousness, doesn’t make you feel happy & supported, doesn’t uplift you, doesn’t push you beyond yourself, and doesn’t encourage you to be a better version of yourself — it’s not worth the fight.

Just because it’s difficult DOESN’T MEAN it’s NOT worth fighting for.

Anything worth the fight is worth fighting for. And anything difficult that’s worth fighting for, is challenging your sense of commitment and dedication.

If something is right for you, there will always be solutions. If it is NOT right for you, options will seem impossible.

Listen to how you feel. Your emotions tell you everything you need to know about what is right for you. If it feels right to you, fight and fight harder; if it doesn’t feel right and you’re exhausted and depleted, walk away and give the situation time to heal.

Don’t give up the fight until you’ve lost your will to fight. Decide what is worth fighting for, put forth your best effort, and let the universe do the rest. Answers ALWAYS come when YOU DON’T GIVE UP THE FIGHT.

… renders you BLIND to yourself.

Why use others’ eye sight to see YOURSELF? Why would you want to look at WHO YOU ARE through the lens of someone else? It seems odd, yet we do it all the time.

Sometimes we care too much what people think about us. We allow our identity to be shaped by the opinions of othersbosses, lovers, clients. We turn our own validation over to the whim of those whom we may or may not even respect.

Who you are is NEVER contingent on what anyone else thinks about you. It never matters what they think, it only matters what you think.

If you are prone to identifying yourself through others’ labels, it will just be a matter of time before you fall into a self-imposed identity crisis. Why give your power over to anyone else to feel less than who you are? If people’s opinions of you don’t match yours, don’t take them on. In life, what you buy into is yours, ask yourself if you actually want those opinions. Because once you’ve tried them on and made the purchase, they become yours and then they color your experience of yourself.

Seeing yourself through the eyes of others is a losing strategy; it leaves you blind to yourself. It gives your identity over to others to define who you are. Take back your identity. Shut down other people’s opinions of you unless they support the YOU you know you are. If they are working against you, politely give them back. The YOU you are NEVER needs a lens to be seen. Take off the lens and you’ll never be blinded again.

… even when you think it isn’t.

You may not understand WHY things happen the way they do in your life, but that doesn’t mean that they’re NOT purposeful.

Not everything that happens to you will make sense right away. In fact, in most cases, things that you deem “bad,” will turn out to be the very best things that ever happened to you. Why, you might ask? Because we never have full clarity in the moment. We never realize why things are happening the way they are because transition stirs up the dust so we cannot see clearly. But once the dust settles, we can see why we are, where we are, and it always make sense.

All you can do in life is chart a course and then stay that course. But that does not mean that you’ll NOT be detoured off that course. In other words, you can pick a path for yourself, but if it’s a path that you’re not meant to be on, you’ll be tossed off it and thrown onto a different path. And as traumatic as that transition is, it always lands you onto a much better path. Trust that.

Trust the process of your life. Things are always working out for you, even when you do not realize that they are. The universe works behind the scenes to bring you to exactly the right circumstances for you. You may not always get what you want, but you’ll always get what you need, whether or not you know you need it at the time. Everything is always working out for you, you’re never at a loss. Once you understand that, your life will change in the most amazing ways.

… and it will soon become comfortable.

Resisting “what is” makes things difficult. Making peace with the discomfort opens up opportunities.

We are comfort-seeking creatures. We would like everything to be easy and pleasurable, but life doesn’t always work that way.

When discomfort arises, we always have 2 choices: we can either RESIST IT and PUSH AGAINST IT or we can learn to LET IT PASS THROUGH US and DETACH FROM IT. We want to learn to transform the discomfort, not feed it.

Think about it — hitting your head on the wall over and over again only gives you a headache; it doesn’t move the wall. Learn to step back from the wall, take a breath and open your eyes, you might just realize that there is a way to WALK AROUND THE WALL. Not everything has to be difficult. Resistance increases your frustration, but acceptance allows you to find new alternatives.

Learn to be comfortable within the discomfort and you’ll transform it. Continue to focus on the frustration of the discomfort and you’ll create more of it. Life is not always going to bring you roses, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find joy in the rest of your garden. How comfortable are you in your life?
