letting-go-hands… to make room for what WILL.

You can’t have both.

Nor do you want both!

All too often we make the mistake of packing up WHAT DIDN’T WORK FOR US that year and dragging it forward into the new year thinking that it will somehow be different? But it NEVER is.

Chances are if something has been troublesome for you for awhile, it’s time for you to LET IT GO. Continued struggle is never a trajectory for success.

Stop the struggle. Learn to trust the process of your life. It will always bring you to where you need to be; you don’t have to control it. But you just have to be brave enough to know when it’s time to walk away and surrender.

If something didn’t work for you in this calendar year, LEAVE IT THERE. Put your focus on creating something BETTER for yourself. Even if you don’t know what that means just yet. It’s always better to start with nothing then to start off the year behind the 8-ball with the same drama. Why put yourself on that same road when you know exactly where that road leads?

The new year is a time for change. Don’t waste it packing up what didn’t work and dragging it into the new year. You don’t have enough space to find new answers if you are fighting the same dysfunction. Make some new year’s resolutions and resolve yourself to making them a reality. Get out of the way of yourself and let go of what was not working for you this year, so you truly have the space to find what will work.

the flow of life… gets you washed out.

There is a flow to your life, but many times we resist it. We naturally fear change. So when life provides us with opportunities to grow in a new direction, sometimes we shun it in favor of staying where we are. But there is a reason why life offers new opportunities; it’s usually because it’s time to grow and expand. When it’s time to move on, the universe will push us along our path and challenge us to take a risk to move forward.

You are always in control of your life and if you use your free will to resist this new current, you will only succeed in exhausting yourself. Swimming upstream makes you tired; it’s literally an uphill battle. Surrender is the name of the game. If life seems to be pushing you in a certain direction and you are resisting it, ask yourself why? What are you afraid of? Fears are meant to be pushed through because freedom and success are always on the other side.

Fears keep you small, risks make you great. By flowing with the path of your life, you are always certain to get to where you need to be. The river knows where it ends. Swimming back upstream to change the direction of your life never serves you. If you weren’t meant to be on that river, you wouldn’t be on it. Trust that the river knows where it is meant to be flowing and kick back and enjoy the ride.

Whatever happens is bringing you to a better place, if you can just trust in the process. Stop trying so hard to resist your life. Acceptance and trust goes a long way to helping you create the life of your dreams. Fighting the flow of your life gets you washed out; flowing with it brings you to where you need to be (even if you didn’t realize you needed to be there.) After all, if you weren’t meant to be on that river, you wouldn’t be on it; since you’re on it, you’re meant to flow with it, not fight against it.

Sisyphean toil… learn to lighten your load.

Not every issue has direct relevance on your life. Yet as humans, we tend to carry every burden on our shoulders as if it was our own. Maybe we are empathetic, maybe we are sensitive to other’s plights, maybe we are just kind people – whatever the excuse, we do not need to carry others’ issues, struggles or negative behaviors upon our shoulders. Life gets much simpler and easier when we learn to own what is ours and give the rest back.

Your work in life is to get yourself to the “top of the mountain” with as much ease and enjoyment as possible. You cannot get to the top of the mountain with ease if you are carrying bags upon bags of other people’s traumas and opinions and judgments. In order to succeed in your own life, you have only to carry what you need in order to make yourself happy. When you have what you need, you have enough to share with others, but when your bags are full of what isn’t serving you, you take yourself down, exhaust yourself and leave yourself feeling hopeless and filled with despair.

Decide today that you are not going to hold onto anything in life that doesn’t serve you – whether it may be a certain person or other’s opinions of you, or other’s dysfunction with themselves or with their peers, etc… Whatever drama or nonsense is going on around you, learn to let it pass through you. Don’t pack it up and take it up the mountain with you. If the situation doesn’t have a direct bearring on your life in a POSITIVE WAY, learn to not take it on as yours. The work in life is in learning to streamline your baggage, not in carrying everyone else’s up the mountain. Carrying other’s burdens does not make you the superhero, it makes you the fool. Afterall, your carrying their baggage doesn’t help them learn their lessons and by doing so, you have just made life harder for yourself. Who wins here? No one.

Give your back a rest. Give others their own baggage to carry up the mountain. Everyone will get there in their own time and with their own learnings and comfort level. Let the journey to the top begin.

images… DOESN’T make them happen for you.

Learning to relax into your life does.

We always think we have all the answers, but in reality, we seldom do. Learn to see the patterns. Learn to see when something is not working for you and be able to walk away from it.

Life is a balance between grace and effort. You need to put forth the effort to achieve anything in life, but you also need to be able to abandon efforts when the results continually prove undesirable. Learning to let go of the outcome with a sense of ease and grace is one of our greatest tools to achieving the life of our dreams.

Pushing and pushing doesn’t make you stronger, it weakens the very fabric you are trying to uphold. The answer is NEVER in forcing things to be a certain way, the answer is in learning to accept that there may be a different way that you have not thought about. True strength is not found in force, but in the ability to step back and allow. Learning to allow life to happen instead of just forcing your agenda on it will ensure that you receive the best outcome for your highest good.

Don’t force an issue. If it isn’t working for you, back off and look at it from another perspective. Are you more interested in being right or doing the right thing? If your ego cannot help you find your way, the ability to step back and change perspective will.

You can use your free-will to force an outcome for yourself or you can step back and allow fate to bring you to exactly where you need to be. Which one do you think will make you most happy? Remember, we don’t always know what is right for us. Stepping back can assure us of the opportunity to get a clear perspective. Stop forcing things to happen and start enjoying the journey of your life. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Unknown… learn to be flexible.

Learn to let things wash over you.

When we try to resist hardship, change, pain or heartbreak, we make it harder then it needs to be. Don’t fight the experience, learn to let it wash over you and leave you.

Many of us attach to the hardship, we personalize it and over-dramatize it and create bigger obstacles then need to be surmounted. Negative energy builds upon itself. If you want to create a monster, you can. What you resist, persists, but what you learn to look at disappears.

Be flexible, learn to navigate life with ease and grace no matter what is going on around you and you will ALWAYS have a better result. The slight and fragile blade of grass is still standing after a great storm, but the tall, resistant oak tree will be snapped in half. Strength does not guarantee success but the ability to yield to trouble allows you more options for survival. In the middle of the storm, bending and yielding buys you time until the sun comes out. If you resist, you will always be snapped in half… and Game Over.

Let each storm pass through you and as it does it will teach you something about yourself. It changes you and you find that you truly learn how to weather the storm. In life, don’t resist the inevitable… power through it, allow it to pass through you over and over again until the storm stops. When all is said and done, you will be the one left standing.

…what you look at disappears.

In life, we fail to realize that everything is energy. When you do not want to have a specific experience because you deem it negative, you resist that experience. That action of resistance is a firm and decisive action that tells the universe, NO. But what we are not seeing is that it does not alleviate the experience you are having. It only brings more “NO” to your door. By resisting something, you are putting the energy of NO out into the universe.

For example, if you do not want to feel emotional pain from a relationship and you fight the experience you are having because you cannot surrender to the pain and transform it, then you only manage to perpetuate the pain you are feeling. And what is worse, you are putting out the sign on your front door saying, “No.” Again, that no does not stop your pain, but it will certainly put an end to good experiences that were coming your way. No simply attracts more NO – no happiness, no good fortune, no laughter, no new relationship, etc… No says means NO or nothing.

If we could learn to surrender to our life lessons and all experiences – both good and bad and not fight them, then we would remain open enough to invite the energy of “openness” or YES to the table. The sooner you can accept your situation and surrender to it’s greater lesson, the sooner that energy of YES will transform the situation and open you up to more positive experiences. Yes says, “I am open, I am willing, I would like to receive.”

Surrender to your experience and allow whatever is going to be, to be. Remember, what you resist, persists (and by doing so encourages the energy of NO). What you look at disappears (and by doing so transforms all experiences into YES). It is, by definition, always your choice.
