… but not mandatory, for growth.

The only constant we have in life is change. We are only here to grow through experiences and to learn who we really are which is aspects of the creator (God).

The nature of reality is change. As long as we are alive on this planet, our lives need to continually expand and evolve and transformation is a critical part of that growth.

Everyone wants to be transformed, but not everyone wants to do the work to transform an aspect of their life. Most prefer to stay stuck and stagnant in a situation that has outlived it’s purpose.

There are 2 ways in which as humans, we can transform. We can transform in a “good” way or a “bad” way. Good and bad are just human labels to describe a process of transformation; they are not realities.

The fact is that we are always in control of how we grow. In the “good” way, we can get out ahead of the curve and recognize that we are feeling stuck/stagnant in our lives and push ourselves outside our comfort zone to make some sort of change.

But many of us tend to evolve and transform in a “bad” way which is awaiting the universe to come from behind us and push us outside our comfort zone via a crisis which undoubtedly pushes us towards transformation.

Either way, you will transform — either on your timeline or the universe’s. Crisis are critical, but not mandatory. How do you choose to evolve?

stepping-backward… not backwards.

Bet you didn’t know that.

Setbacks are a necessary step along the path of life. They are your indication that the path you’ve been traveling is no longer working for you.

A setback literally STEPS YOU BACK from moving ahead in a given direction. It forces a timeout to get still within yourself and take stock of the direction you are going. A setback is never a punishment to who you are, it’s a recalibration of the path you’ve been traveling.

If you experience a setback, the universe is clearly telling you that it is NOT in your best interest to proceed in that direction. It helps to clarify that it is NEVER a SETBACK but a STEP BACK in order to take stock of where you are/where you are going. The STEP BACK puts your life momentarily on PAUSE. That pause is very purposeful because it demands that you re-chart a new path which is much better suited to your needs and desires.

The setback is NEVER SETTING YOU BACK. It’s only SETTING YOU UP for a much better path, if you can heed it. Setbacks move you forward, not back. Recognize that the setback is a protection against moving in the wrong direction, so allow it to guide you towards a new direction which will be more satisfying for you. You are never being SETBACK in your life, you are only being SET UP for the future that awaits you – you only need to allow yourself to be open to it.

th… is happening FOR YOU – to bring you to a much better place.

You are always meant to be MOVING UP in life – towards better situations. Challenging circumstances come up in your life NOT to beat you down, but to bring you to that higher place in your life. Think of it this way… where there is pain, there is ALWAYS GAIN, but that gain requires that you can look beyond the short term discomfort, anxiety and confusion and re-frame the situation to get the learning from it and allow it to bring you to a better place.

Life’s perfect dichotomy is this: If it seems bad, it’s bringing you to good; and if it’s good, it’s a reward for having gotten there.

Nothing is ever truly bad in our lives (even though it can seem that way). If something seems “bad,” it’s because the good hasn’t YET been revealed to you. But it’s ALWAYS there. The trick is not to fall into the drama of what seems to be temporarily “bad” because bad is ALWAYS temporary. Good prevails indefinitely.

What happens to you, is happening FOR YOU – to bring you to a much better place. You can label an event as “bad,” but bad is always temporary, so if you are stuck in bad, give it time because in that time, the good will always be revealed.

feeling pain… running from it is.

Believe it or not, pain isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually an indication that you are learning and growing. All growth requires some level of discomfort; it is called “growing pains.” This pain is inevitable and it signifies the emotional hard work and challenges that we all face day-to-day and for which we valiantly (hopefully) overcome.

But for some reason we try and avoid feeling this pain… we try and avoid it at all costs. But what we really do not understand is that avoiding the pain doesn’t make your life any better, it only intensifies the experience of the pain later on. Why? Because you can only stave off the lesson causing the pain for so long before it comes back with a vengeance. It’s just a matter of time before that lesson will come calling again and when it does, trust me, it means business.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t run from your life by hiding from your pain. Your escapism strategies (drugs, alcohol, food, tv, internet, sleeping, shopping, sex, etc..) only guarantee that you will get hit HARDER later on. Work through the pain when it presents itself the first time – get the lesson and get out so you can move forward with the rest of your life.

The pain isn’t there to torture you unduly so, it is there to enrich you and make you better. Pain is your friend. Go towards it and see what it has for you. When you allow yourself to fully go into the experience of the pain, you very quickly transform it and life gets better very easily. When you avoid that pain, you prolong and perpetuate the feelings of the pain for a very long time. Don’t wallow in your pain, do something about it. Stare it in the face and stare it down. Your life is too short to get shut out by your own pain. Feeling pain is never the problem, running from it always is.

th… is an indication that you are NOT LEARNING.

Therefore you are prohibited from moving forward – kinda like being held back at school.

You would only feel stuck in the space you are in if you hadn’t yet learned what needed to be learned in that phase in order to progress to the next phase. Life builds on itself and lessons build on themselves. With every lesson learned in a life, you move up and you move onto the next phase of your life. But so many of us stay in cycles repeating the same behaviors and expecting a different result while wondering why we are stuck?

Feeling stuck in your life is very purposeful. It is meant to make you feel uncomfortably trapped in your situation so that you will shed the light of consciousness on it and bring about the change it requires to transform. You are not meant to fall into the “stuckness” but to look for answers on how to “get unstuck.” Just remember, if you do not initiate a change yourself, change will never happen.

So ask yourself, why are things not changing? What am I not seeing? What am I not getting? What behaviors and patterns might I be repeating that are keeping me in this frustrating cycle? What might this situation be trying to teach me?

If you are feeling stuck, learn to objectively look at your situation and get the lesson from it and get out so you can truly move on with your life. You are not a victim of your situation – no one is keeping you stuck but you. When you open your eyes and learn to show up differently, you will have a different result and one which will naturally free you from the chains that bind you.

th-5… for change.

Let it drive your transformation.

In other words – if it hurts you, it will change you. And that’s a good thing.

We all run from pain, no one likes to feel it. Everyone labels it as “bad.” But the reality is that it’s only through your pain that you are able to truly transform yourself because YOU HAVE TO. You can no longer go on experiencing the pain nor do you want to go back to the source that caused it. Therefore the only way through your pain is literally through it and out the other end. And that is where change lies.

When you let yourself truly feel the pain, you innately know which direction to go in, in order to heal. Just like a child touching a hot stove, it is only through the pain of a burned finger that he learns never to do that again, never to engage in similar behavior again.

If you never allow yourself to feel the pain, how can you transform the behavior? You can’t. If you ignore the pain and push it down, where’s the learning? There isn’t any. Where there is no pain, there can be no transformation and where there is no transformation, there can never be growth and with no growth, there can be no happiness. It’s a simple as that.

You always have a choice. But the highest choice is to allow yourself to feel the pain, hit rock bottom with it and let it transform you from a stubborn caterpillar into that beautiful butterfly. And as we all know, the view from above is always much more liberating.
