Sisyphean toil… learn to lighten your load.

Not every issue has direct relevance on your life. Yet as humans, we tend to carry every burden on our shoulders as if it was our own. Maybe we are empathetic, maybe we are sensitive to other’s plights, maybe we are just kind people – whatever the excuse, we do not need to carry others’ issues, struggles or negative behaviors upon our shoulders. Life gets much simpler and easier when we learn to own what is ours and give the rest back.

Your work in life is to get yourself to the “top of the mountain” with as much ease and enjoyment as possible. You cannot get to the top of the mountain with ease if you are carrying bags upon bags of other people’s traumas and opinions and judgments. In order to succeed in your own life, you have only to carry what you need in order to make yourself happy. When you have what you need, you have enough to share with others, but when your bags are full of what isn’t serving you, you take yourself down, exhaust yourself and leave yourself feeling hopeless and filled with despair.

Decide today that you are not going to hold onto anything in life that doesn’t serve you – whether it may be a certain person or other’s opinions of you, or other’s dysfunction with themselves or with their peers, etc… Whatever drama or nonsense is going on around you, learn to let it pass through you. Don’t pack it up and take it up the mountain with you. If the situation doesn’t have a direct bearring on your life in a POSITIVE WAY, learn to not take it on as yours. The work in life is in learning to streamline your baggage, not in carrying everyone else’s up the mountain. Carrying other’s burdens does not make you the superhero, it makes you the fool. Afterall, your carrying their baggage doesn’t help them learn their lessons and by doing so, you have just made life harder for yourself. Who wins here? No one.

Give your back a rest. Give others their own baggage to carry up the mountain. Everyone will get there in their own time and with their own learnings and comfort level. Let the journey to the top begin.

chart-9… make EVERYTHING complicated.

The energy you put out into the world is the exact energy you get back. So why not try and make things easier on yourself?

Complicated people make things difficult for themselves because of the way they show up in life. When you learn how to relax into stressful situations, you moderate the outcomes. Things get easier when you choose the simpler path. Most of us do not know how to do this because we think more is better. More is never better, it is just more. And if anything, it makes things more complicated and sets an energetic pattern of resistance into play for you.

Here’s a tip: there is no need to over-think situations and no need to over-plan situations. The most successful solutions are ALWAYS the SIMPLEST.

Remember complicated people create complicated relationships and complicated situations. Their lives become complicated by their own hand. Recognize that you are in control and if you want things to be less stressful and more relaxed, learn to streamline.

Simplifying calms and soothes your experience. Complications create disharmony and chaos.

Your life is up to you. You have a choice everyday as to how you are going to show up. Are you going to stress yourself out by trying to do everything at once or are you going to pare back and take the path that optimizes your resources and time? Learn to streamline your life and everything will be less complicated.

Sometimes life overwhelms us with real-life dramas. We allow our lives to be governed by what is going on around us at any given moment. Ask yourself if you are easily influenced by your own dramas? Do you buy into them? Do you make them more real than they need to be?

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. We tend to complicate our own lives instead of finding better and healthier ways of coping with our dramas. We are not put on this earth to suffer. We forget that we have chosen this precious life to learn certain truths. We forget that we are in essence playing a role in a play. Life is a game and if we could realize that we can never really lose, then we might feel better playing whatever bad hand we are dealt.

The problem is that we take things so seriously – especially ourselves. We have such a hard time letting go and laughing – getting out of the way of ourselves. Things in our world are SO serious. We think they have to be. Here’s a new thought… They don’t. Things are what they are; once you attach a label of good or bad to them then they become something else to you. If we could learn to cultivate a child-like consciousness where everything is new, interesting and intriguing but NOT defeating, then we could change the outcome of every situation for ourselves. Happiness is a choice. If we could learn to find simple humor in life’s every day drama, things would never spiral out of control. The act of injecting an air of positivity into our thinking changes the outcome of every situation.

As Dan Millman mentions in The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, we need to find a way to be “unreasonably happy.” This means happy without a reason in the world. From that place, real happiness and an ability to truly open up to life begins. Life is a game and happiness is a choice. Choose wisely and your game will improve exponentially.
