th-1… and consciousness is your map.

Do you want to succeed through life? Pay attention.

Don’t sleep walk your way through the maze. Every twist and turn has something for you. Every person you meet, every situation you encounter is quite purposefully planted in your path for your growth.

Open your eyes and get to know the terrain. Notice when you have gone down the same corridor and make another choice – don’t get looped into the same trap over and over again. If it looks familiar to you, chances are you’ve been down that path before.

Open your eyes and practice conscious awareness of the path you are on. You are always in charge of the path you take, but if you are not awake and conscious of the choices you are making, the maze will run you in circles.

Pick your head up. Stop running into dead ends. Be more strategic about your life. Learn when certain corridors lead you down darker paths and learn to look for the light.

But at the same time, don’t be afraid to explore and make mistakes. You might think that you know the direction that your path is taking you, but you may not. It may lead you towards a different outcome completely and believe it or not, that outcome would be for your highest good.

Practice consciousness towards your life. Pay attention to what is going on along your path – what are others saying to you and how others are treating you? The seeds of your life lessons are happening every day if you are conscious enough to watch them play out and learn the rules of the engagement. After all, it is the game of your life, and it is a maze which can be successfully navigated by waking up.

Your life is too short to run yourself around in circles. Do you want to be in a better place in your life? Wake up and find the nature of the path you have been following and if you realize that it hasn’t been serving you, it’s time to take another path.

Unknown… so you can become even better.

Know who you are – know all your issues, baggage and insecurities. Know absolutely everything about yourself – the good, the bad and the indifferent. Be brutally honest with yourself. The more work you do on becoming aware of who you are and how you show up in life, the better of a life you create for yourself.

Awareness creates growth – lack of awareness creates negative patterns. Do you want to move forward in your life?  Become cognizant of your behaviors and your reactions to others. Ask yourself how you are showing up? Are you being the best version of YOU? Or are you unconsciously spewing venom at others?

Know who you are… know your issues, baggage and your insecurities and never throw them on anyone else. Remember who you are is YOURS, it is not anyone else’s fault that you feel a certain way or that you have a certain situation going on.

When you can practice awareness and see yourself objectively, you can make better choices for yourself – one’s that will allow you to grow and become the best you can be. When you don’t have a clue as to who you are and how you prefer to show up in life or what behaviors you prefer to engage in, you will find yourself at the mercy of whatever mood swing is on deck. Who you are is greater than any mood swing/anger outburst. Never give your power over to any volatile emotion to define who you are.

There are none so blind as those who just will not see. Wake up, open your eyes and recognize how you are comunicating. Your life experience is directly proportional to the behaviors you put out there. Time to learn who you are and start becoming even better.

Repeating Cycles… doesn’t help create new ones.

We are creatures of habit by nature. We find comfort in the repetition of our lives. But repetition doesn’t invite growth. Change does. After all, repetition means “you have already been there or done that.”

When we repeat situations and lessons in our lives, it’s because we have NOT yet gotten it. The message should be loud and clear – you are not seeing something that is right in front of you. You are unable to discern what is really going on – usually because you are too close to the situation to see it objectively. When that happens and you see yourself repeating situations over and over and over again, it is time to take a step back from the situation to gain some clarity.

When we lose objectivity, we lose our ability to see ourselves clearly. When you can no longer see what is right in front of you, take a time out. Do something different – take a trip, go on a retreat, shake it up. Break the pattern of unconsciousness so that you can gain some semblance of consciousness. Once you can do that, everything changes. Shake yourself out of the complacency of repeating your unconscious cycles and give yourself a chance to move forward in your life. Happiness awaits when you gain the clarity to see that it will no longer will be found in the repetition of a cycle, but in the experience of a new one.

images… so you can proceed with caution.

Not everything in our lives is meant to happen instantaneously. Some situations take time to cultivate. But in our society we are so trained in instant gratification that when things don’t go according to our plan, we get frustrated and anxious and impatient and try to force situations to come about unnaturally.

It is important to note that on our planet everything works on its own timeline and NOTHING can be rushed. The universe maintains perfect time management in terms of bringing you the situations you need, exactly when you need them. There is no room for negotiation here. As we know, things happen for a reason and they happen when they are supposed to.

So, why is it that we encounter speed bumps in our lives? Why doesn’t everything happen when we want it to? The answer is easy. When you hit a speed bump, it is an enforced period of reflection & analyses where you are being asked to proceed forward with caution. In essence, you are being held back from what you think you want/need and are being asked to evaluate the situation and your role within it. Are you sure you are ready to go there? Do you have all the tools you need in place to manage that next step? Is this opportunity truly going to meet your needs? Have you considered other possibilities? These are all reasons why we hit speed bumps – it is a built-in process to protect us from jumping into situations that might NOT be right for us.

The road ahead is always uncertain, but you can be certain that when you hit a speed bump, you are being asked to slow down and process the direction you are heading. If the path ahead was clear for you, you wouldn’t hit a speed bump. Heed the warning and use the time to evaluate what’s ahead of you. You might decide you don’t even want to be on that road. Speed bumps are the disruptions that bring ultimate clarity.

images-3… otherwise you will repeat them.

We all have patterns, we are just not acutely aware of them. In fact, we spend our lifetimes going through the same patterns over and over again. It’s called sleepwalking our way through our lives. We keep hitting our head on the walls over and over again wondering “why things like this keep happening to us?” We feel victimized by the pattern instead of empowered and awakened to make necessary change.

What is a pattern you might ask? Any obstacle, hardship or adverse encounter that continually shows up in our lives signifies a pattern. Clearly the pattern continues in our lives until it’s addressed. Our patterns show up everywhere in our lives – at work, at home, in our relationships with lovers, colleagues, family, friends and strangers. Patterns are highlighted over and over in our lives until we work through them. If we do not catch the pattern, it will undoubtedly repeat again, but with a new situation and a new cast of characters.

Your work is to wake up to the patterns, catch them and heal them so that you can be freed of them. Once you wake up and apply a certain degree of conscious awareness to your life, your life changes. Patterns are meant to be addressed and worked through, not experienced over and over again.

The next time you find yourself in a tough spot, stop and ask yourself if there is a pattern here that you are not seeing. Has something similar happened before? Once you catch the pattern, you can choose to show up differently and make a new decision that will change your outcome. As long as you stay stuck repeating negative patterns of behavior, you keep yourself back in life. Patterns keep you stuck. Healing the patterns set you free. Where do you want to be?

experience… it’s there to teach you something.

Otherwise it wouldn’t be happening.

Nothing ever shows up around us that doesn’t somehow reflect what’s going on inside of us. Believe it or not, all events that occur in our lives are our barometers for what we need to work on.

People mistakenly think that they are disconnected from the drama and complications in their lives. They feel that somehow these events are just happening to them and that they are innocent bystanders. Nothing ever shows up in your life that doesn’t have a reason for being. Nothing. Events happen in our lives for many reasons, some of which to:

– bring to light an issue that needs to be worked through

– change direction on your path and open you up to something new

– make you stronger and give you the tools to strengthen your coping mechanisms

– slow you down/stop you in your tracks and get you to focus on what is right in front of you instead of what you are chasing

Needless to say, if it is showing up in your life, it is on YOUR path and it is meant for YOU to experience. So make the most of the experience and realize that you are not a victim of the events in your life, you are the master of the program. Start applying consciousness to your life. Ask yourself why these events might be happening? What are you meant to get out of them? What are you needing to learn or change or grow from? Consciousness helps you to take responsibility for your life. Once you take responsibility and own your life, the rest is simply a walk in the park.

Unknown… is the only reason you are here.

You are here right now to learn. That is it. That is the big mystery of life. You are here to improve yourself and your level of consciousness. With every lesson learned in a lifetime, you move up – closer to happiness, closer to freedom, closer to God.

This is why it is extremely important that we are consciously walking through life and not sleepwalking our way through it. Sleepwalking is a favorite pastime of ours – numbing ourselves with overworked schedules, alcohol, food, drugs, electronics, media, etc…

If you are ready to be more conscious and want to know what is really going on in your life, look at your landscape. Who are the people and situations around you? How are they influencing you? What affect do they have on you day-to-day?

We make contracts with other souls to teach us our life lessons. Nothing every shows up in our lives that doesn’t have a reason for being and that reason is to teach us something. Our work is to decipher the lesson, overcome it and make our life better because of it.

Wonder what your life lessons are? Here are a few basic life lessons that many people face today:

If you are working on Self-esteem, you will attract people who walk all over you/take you for granted.

If you are working on Anger you will attract people who test your patience.

If you are working on Tolerance, you will attract people who challenge your notions of what is proper/acceptable.

If you are working on Self-worth, you will attract people who try to undermine you/cross your boundaries.

If you are working on Selfishness, you will attract people who are needy.

If you are working on Forgiveness, you will attract people who continually hurt you.

If you are working on Emotional Independence, you will attract people who try to control you.

If you are working on Balance, you will attract people who create drama in your life.

If you are working on Patience, you will attract people who push your buttons.

Now that you start to recognize the pattern, you can make great change in your life and change you WILL MAKE. Learn your lessons – get them early. The longer it takes you to get them, the harder they get. They repeat with each new relationship you have until you stop buying into the lesson and start reacting differently. When you finally get the lesson, it stops… and life continues on – much sweeter and easier.

Are you ready to learn?

… is what matters the most.

We tend to spend most of our busy lives focusing outside of ourselves – spending thousands of dollars every year to make ourselves new and improved via personal trainers, gym memberships, weight programs, skin care products, facials, reconstructive surgeries, make-up, expensive wardrobes and accessories, etc… But what does all that really do?

Fixing the outside of ourselves is fine, but it is never a replacement for healing the inside. We are a work in progress and it is much easier to bury our emotional states and hide behind a few simple cosmetic changes then it is to go deeper into our beings and ask the tough questions – are we really happy with the lives we have created for ourselves? Most of us run from that key question and keep “prettying up the front yard” because we think that if the outside looks ok, we can forgo the mess inside. That never works. Eventually the door breaks down and your dirty laundry is exposed on the front lawn.

In life, it is not just important to focus on the tip of the iceberg when clearly there is destructive ice sitting just below the surface. In other words, it is the 10% above the surface that is the easy stuff; it is the sneaky 90% below the surface that really demands our attention. Just because it isn’t showing day-in and day-out and just because you are able to hide it successfully from the world, doesn’t mean it isn’t there to wreak havoc on our lives.

Slow down and take a long, hard look at who you are and how you show up in life. Does your life accurately reflect who you are? Are you dealing with the real issues that are confronting you or are you just stuffing them below the surface? Dealing with the hidden ugly is the only true way to beautify your surface. Our faces never lie. They show a lifetime of what we have stuffed down beneath the surface. The time has come to excavate what we have submerged and shed the light of consciousness on it. In raising up all that we have suppressed, we have the ability to transform our lives into a happier and more meaningful existence. What are you waiting for?

… It’s the big stuff that matters.

How often do we find ourselves doing this? We obsess over the small things – the things that do not matter – the small items that we need to cross off our to-do list. We allow these small, mundane items to take precedence over our lives and give them the power to impart happiness or misery over us.

If we are not careful, we can busy our days with lots of small and insignificant items and/or activities. These items may seem very important to us in our day-to-day mundane lives but in the grander scheme of our lives, they are not very important at all. In fact, these small items distract our attention away from what really matters in life.

Let’s define what really matters in life. We can sum it up in two words – your relationships. Translation: how do you show up in all your relationships? All relationships being those with colleagues, with lovers, with friends, with clients, with bosses, with shop clerks, etc… If you want to know how you are faring in life, worry less about your item list and worry more about how you are treating those around you. For instance, are you fair? Are you kind? Are you constructive? Are you inspiring others? Are you a motivator?  Or on the other hand, are you spiteful and resentful? Are you jealous? Are you passive aggressive? Do you busy yourself so that you do not have to deal with other people? These are coping mechanisms and escape mechanisms programmed into us. They do not serve the purpose of the soul, they only temporarily satisfy the ego.

The ego will always make the tasks at hand seem supremely important, especially if the tasks are created to distract oneself away from relations with other people. Sometimes we worry so much about doing and completing tasks that we completely forget that at the end of the day, it is really unimportant as to whether or not the task was actually completed, but what does matter is how you made another person feel while you were trying to complete that task.

If it becomes a choice as to whether or not to strike something off our to-do list or actually face up to our insecurities and issues with others and allow ourselves to connect and be there for someone who needs us, the choice should become increasingly clear. When all is said and done, life is about being and not doing. If you focus on being, I assure you, you will innately become happier and more centered. Doing always needs to be busy or it will never be complacent because doing is a means of escaping a deeper connection to others.. You can spend your life chasing your tail, but it will never make you happy. Don’t sweat the small stuff… let go of the details. Life becomes easier, happier and much more joyful when you look at those around you and learn to make an honest connection to them; that is what the big stuff is all about.

You take it all with you.

It is human nature to carry your bags with you. All of it. We all carry heavy burdens of issues – packed up discreetly or not so discreetly as our “baggage.” We insist on carting this baggage around with us into every new relationship, job and situation.

We try and show up as the best version of ourselves, yet we will not let go of our bags. We stand smiling at the front door while we are invited in by our host and instead of discreetly storing our bags away in the guest closet until it is time to unpack them, we find ourselves running into our host’s main room and exploding open our bags like a crazy person – exposing the most intimate parts of ourselves (panties and all!) at very inopportune times. Why do we do this?

In life, there is a big difference between being open/vulnerable and being needy/unconscious. You always want to be yourself and be genuine but at the same time, it is important that you are conscious. It is important that you realize everything that you have packed into your bags and recognize it is yours when it rears its ugly head out of the baggage. Never confuse its contents with those of your host. In other words, own what is yours and give the rest back.

You have a lifetime to sort through your baggage. Try and streamline it – deal with your issues and evolve onwards. You will blame people less, resent people less, distrust people less and grow consciously into the being you were meant to. Life gets easier for you and people find it easier to be around you. Do the work – lesson your load, you do not need to throw your dirty laundry all over your partner’s living room in order to be seen and heard. There is a better way to show up. Pack your bags lightly, the soul is eternal and your baggage is your load to carry lifetime after lifetime. How heavy are your bags?
