… it’s what you’ve experienced that makes up true intelligence.

How smart are you? Intelligence isn’t based on standardized tests or gpa; it’s based on wisdom from experience. How do you really know something unless you’ve lived it?

Words don’t teach. Only experience teaches.

Knowing something isn’t enough to teach you its value in your life. LIVING IT IS. The experience is everything.

The mind can only answer half the equation. The mind can provide you with the recipe, but if you haven’t made the meal yet how do you know how delicious it will be? Or if it will be too spicy for you? Only the experience will give you the wisdom to know.

Don’t just know something – LIVE IT. Don’t waste time gathering facts, spend it LIVING YOUR LIFE. And don’t worry about making a mistake. Have as many experiences as possible — make your life as messy as possible, it shows you’ve lived it. And through living it, you’ll truly KNOW what’s right for you, because in life, IT ISN’T WHAT YOU KNOW, it’s what you’ve EXPERIENCED that makes up true intelligence.

th… brings it RIGHT TO YOU.

Detaching from it, dissolves it for you.

Which sounds like the path of least resistance?

We have it wrong in our society, we continually FIGHT AGAINST what we DON’T WANT in our lives. But in doing so, we actually feed energy to the very thing we don’t want.

So, if there is something in your life that you do NOT want, do NOT give it any attention at all. Detach from it. Take back your energy and don’t feed energy into your thoughts of resistance, anger, worries or fears of it happening. Just re-focus your thoughts on something else. When you re-focus your thoughts, you put the energy into a different arena and what you are resisting slowly dissipates from your reality.

Thoughts need energy to become real. And you are always in control of whether or not you make any thought real. Take back your power and put your energy ONLY into the thoughts you want to experience in your life. Fighting against something makes sure you get it, detaching from the mere thought of it assures that it will NEVER make its way into your existence. Which way would you prefer to live?

a healthy ego… and NOTHING to prove.

So if you have something to prove, you may want to check-in with your ego.

Healthy egos create healthy humans. But in our fast paced society of competition and status, sometimes our egos default to the power outside of us rather than highlighting the power within us.  Our egos can become misguided and singularly focused on some notion of external power. But real power has nothing to prove. It just is. If your ego is healthy, you have NO NEED to wield your power over others, you are happy to use that power in support of others’ development. But when your ego is unhealthy, it needs to use it’s power outside of itself to control and manipulate everyone around you in order to feel safe and/or important, valued and validated.

How healthy is your ego? Where is your power center? Inside or outside? When you learn that a healthy ego is inwardly directed, you realize that you have it all within yourself. If people do not see how fabulous you are, it isn’t your job to prove it to them. It is only your job to prove it to yourself. So always put that external energy back into yourself and in time, everyone will see that you are “the REAL DEAL,” not only because you have everything to offer, but because you truly have absolutely no need to prove it to anyone. A healthy ego validates itself; it never needs validation from outside.

th-5… doesn’t get you very far.

LIVING IT does.

Believe it or not, we spend most of our waking lives, ASLEEP – completely sleepwalking – repeating the same patterns that haven’t served us year after year and wondering why happiness always eludes us?

We wake up from our slumber some 10-years, 20-years later and ask, “how did I get here?”

Here’s the deal… racing your way through life doesn’t get you anywhere IF YOU ARE RUNNING IN CIRCLES. But no one ever tells us that. They just encourage us to keep running – to keep competing – to keep surviving.

The years go by and we keep running just “to keep up”, but never asking ourselves, “where are we running to?”

Do YOU know where you are going in life? Have you set the course or is the course driving you? Who’s in charge? If you do not know, you might just wake up from your run and realize you do not want to be where you ended up. Somehow the race took you off-path – off YOUR LIFE PATH, that is. But in reality, was it the path that led you astray or was it your unconscious decision to follow that path, the problem?

Chasing the years of your life keeps you running in circles. Stop running just to keep up and START asking yourself if you are even ON THE RIGHT PATH. Start there. Set your own life course and consciously follow it everyday. If you do that, you will never regret the path you find yourself on. It is the path you chose with absolute certainty; not the one you absent-mindedly found yourself on.

The years of your life go so quickly. How do you want to spend them? Chasing those lost years or driving the years you want to be living? When you are ready to stop blindly running and start mindfully living, the rest of your life is ready to begin.

th-8… is attachment.

Attachment to any one thing working out the way you want it to/need it to – be it a job, relationship, situation, etc… If you need it to happen in a certain way by a certain time and with certain parameters, you are attached to it. And if you are attached to an outcome, you will suffer when that outcome is not achieved.

Attachment is dangerous because it implies that you know what is right for you in life. Trust me, you don’t always know what’s right for you. Generally speaking there are 3 outcomes: what you want, what you need and what is right for you – they are not always the same thing. In fact, we tend to mistakenly think that what we want or need is what is right for us. Therein is the root of suffering.

It is OK to have hopes, dreams and goals, but it is NOT OK to hold onto a specific outcome. If you don’t get what you want, learn to let it go and trust that there is something much better around the corner. When you can learn to not attach to a given outcome, you generally find that what you receive is much better than what you thought you were going to get.

Learn to minimize the amount of suffering in your life. Let go of needing things to be the way you want them to be and let things be the way they are. Adopt this strategy and you might find that things work out even better than you could have imagined.
