falling-into-habit… is EASIER than changing it.

But that doesn’t make it right for you.

Just because a behavior is comfortable, doesn’t mean it’s the right course of action for you.

Habits limit your potential. Some habits are bad, some are innocuous but all habits keep you WHERE YOU ARE, they never move you forward into unchartered territory. They only keep you caged in a box of your own design. But life and growth only happen outside that box.

Know that it is much easier to blindly fall into that habitual pattern then it is to challenge yourself and step outside your comfort zone.

Break the box that confines you. Take risks, show up differently. Push yourself outside your normal operating space and open up to a new way of life that has the ability to transform you.

Falling into habits only numbs you into accepting a mediocre existence. Greatness only comes by breaking those habits and redefining new strategies.

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by your habits. Breaking those habits may be difficult because they are so ingrained, but once they’re broken, your new life will be ready to begin. What are you waiting for?

feeling pain… running from it is.

Believe it or not, pain isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually an indication that you are learning and growing. All growth requires some level of discomfort; it is called “growing pains.” This pain is inevitable and it signifies the emotional hard work and challenges that we all face day-to-day and for which we valiantly (hopefully) overcome.

But for some reason we try and avoid feeling this pain… we try and avoid it at all costs. But what we really do not understand is that avoiding the pain doesn’t make your life any better, it only intensifies the experience of the pain later on. Why? Because you can only stave off the lesson causing the pain for so long before it comes back with a vengeance. It’s just a matter of time before that lesson will come calling again and when it does, trust me, it means business.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t run from your life by hiding from your pain. Your escapism strategies (drugs, alcohol, food, tv, internet, sleeping, shopping, sex, etc..) only guarantee that you will get hit HARDER later on. Work through the pain when it presents itself the first time – get the lesson and get out so you can move forward with the rest of your life.

The pain isn’t there to torture you unduly so, it is there to enrich you and make you better. Pain is your friend. Go towards it and see what it has for you. When you allow yourself to fully go into the experience of the pain, you very quickly transform it and life gets better very easily. When you avoid that pain, you prolong and perpetuate the feelings of the pain for a very long time. Don’t wallow in your pain, do something about it. Stare it in the face and stare it down. Your life is too short to get shut out by your own pain. Feeling pain is never the problem, running from it always is.

th… unless you make it that way.

These are two completely different concepts. Do you know the difference?

Being alone assumes one loves themselves and fully enjoys and appreciates themselves. They are comfortable in their skin, emotionally well-adjusted and although they enjoy the company of others, they are quite contented to be alone and find just as much happiness and fulfillment in their aloneness.

Being lonely is when you are not comfortable within yourself, when your own company isn’t quite enough to soothe or entertain you. It is when you require someone or something outside of you to make you happy because you cannot find that happiness within yourself. It is when you default to any type of distraction (drugs, alcohol, food, tv, sleep, etc…) to keep you from feeling your own pain and loneliness because the solitude of being on your own is simply too painful to bear.

Running from yourself will always keep you lonely. Embracing yourself will always keep you fulfilled. Regardless of the image staring back at you in the mirror, learn to love it, learn to appreciate it and learn to honor it every day. Self love is your best and only real companion.

Do you want to be alone or continually feel lonely? The choice is yours. But nothing changes until you learn to love your own company, if you don’t, how can you ever ask someone else to?

… and you will never be lead astray.

But how many of us can actually do that? Our minds are so cluttered and over-stimulated with such nonsense day in and day out that we can barely hear our intuition. We have also gotten very good at anesthetizing ourselves against our intuition through addiction: drugs, alcohol, sex, food, shopping, nicotine, etc… Addiction is a pre-occuping strategy to avoid the needs and calls of our soul. We can only sustain that pattern of behavior for so long before we break down. And we will always break down because we are going against the soul.

Our life is a delicate balance between the ego (personality) and the soul (higher self). The soul has planned this very lifetime and knows what lies ahead for us in terms of life lessons, romantic liasions, challenges, etc… The soul is constantly whispering in our ears, “go there, take that direction, try that out, explore that…” The voice in our head and the ideas that pop into our head in a seemingly random fashion are perfectly orchestrated by the soul to take us to that next level in our lives. But often times, we do not listen to it, or we are not capable of hearing it. We prefer to think that we know it all and we often times use our free will to move away from our intuitive nature.

If you want answers in your life, know that they never come from outside of you. You can ask for assistance and advice from others on your path, but nothing is a substitution for the directive of the soul. After all, your soul holds the blueprint of your life and knows exactly what you need to grow and learn, so why wouldn’t you ask it first?

We spend so much time in confusion and fear because we simply do not trust that we are the ones who have all the answers we seek. We are such an externally focused society that we have forfeited our beliefs in ourselves and continually give our power away to other people.

If you want answers in your life, go INSIDE. Get quiet for 5 minutes, sit in meditation, come to your yoga mat, pray and just LISTEN. You will always be given the answer in terms of a feeling, a knowing, an idea or even a sign from a friend or stranger, but you need to be conscious to fully recognize it – otherwise you will miss it completely. The language of the soul is very subtle and unfortunately our minds (as toxic as they have become) have the tendency to overpower our soul’s stirrings. Everything you need, you already have. Cut out the clutter and the drama of the ego and seek answers to your own questions. You will never lead yourself astray.

Have you ever noticed that like a moth to a flame, we are hypnotically drawn to that which is not good for us? As human beings, every one of us has issues but unfortunately not every one of us is always consciously equipped to deal with them. We obviously all have the innate tools to do the work but somehow the draw of the “dangerous and forbidden” tends to be too alluring and seductive that we fall prey to our impulses and lose our way. We can see this manifest in a myriad of addictions (substance, sex and dysfunctional love) where self-sabbotage seems to reign king.

Once you begin the work and you are truly on a path of healing, you will no longer feel anesthetized by the warmth and glow of the flame. For once we get burned, consciousness becomes heightened and we begin to learn how to find another way to show up. Self-sabbotage begins to take a back seat to healing. Look at your patterns, where are you drawn to the “unhealthy” in your life? Do you go back to dysfunctional relationships hoping to make them work? Do you turn to food to fill an emotional need? Do you hide your pain behind smoking or recreational drugs/alcohol? These are all ways of coping and temporarily “band-aiding” a gaping wound that is crying out for attention. When you are ready to do the work, the teacher will appear. The answers will be given to you. And life as you know it will change for the better. You are never alone. You are never broken. You only need to wake up and feel the heat of the situation before you thrust yourself headfirst into the flame.
